Description
INVENTORY: LOW Considered the Holy Grail of American beer the 1946 Ballantine Burton Ale is a rare find indeed. Over the years a few of these bottles will pop up that someone found inside of a wall or stashed in the corner of some barn or basement. This offering is from the personal collection of Anthony “Tony†LaBarba considered one of the country’s leading experts of wine, beer and liquor prior to his passing. 1 Unopen bottle, from the Ballantine Brewery, of the 1946 brew bottled in 1964. You will not find a better preserved and handled product of this kind on the planet. This beer was made to age as it sat for 18 years in oak barrels before being bottled. The American Home Brewers Association says - The 1946 Ballantine Burton Ale “believe it or not still can yield a remarkable sensory and tasting experience...loads of hop character and aroma, a hefty hint of the oak it was aged in, along with the expected sherry notes. Worth getting a hold of one of these.†I myself have also had the privilege of sampling bottles from Mr. LaBarba's collection of the 1946 bottled in 1960, 61' & 64' all three received very positive reviews, as well as having the honor of drinking a 70 yr old beer.
